For me, this photo has always represented calm and colour during a turbulent time in my life. I had embarked on an absurd paragliding trip to Ethiopia, with a clique of German and Swiss pilots. Organized by SMS, after an accidental meeting with a German pilot, an adventurer from Munich. I’m organising a paragliding trip to Ethiopia, are you coming with us? – OK. That was it. He had lived in Ethiopia for a couple of years and, for once, I thought I would benefit from someone else’s experience – because I usually go alone. It was an absolutely epic ride. Always at the limit of my abilities as a pilot. Always under tension. Sheer drops over rocky canyons. African thermals, powerful. Landings wherever it happened. Great people. A few small crashes.
